The making of a  Symbol Pole

Let's think together about the neighbourhood identity

Everyone with a connection to the neighborhood is invited to share their wishes and symbols, to be displayed on the totem pole. This will be a lasting representation of their hopes for the future of this place capturing the vision of the community for generations to come.

The Process

We are now bringing the defining element of Lincoln Park to life. To make this vision a reality, we invite everyone with a connection to Lincoln Park—whether you’re the mayor, members of the municipal project and communication departments, the first residents, future residents, housing associations, project developers, Meerkerk neighbours, MeerGroen volunteers, Tudorpark residents, architects, investors, or construction companies, or representatives from the new schools—to share their ideas and wishes for the neighbourhood. This will take the form of a competition, with the winning ideas being realised and inspiring the neighbourhood (and beyond) for decades to come.

Together we will make the slogans and symbols

Send in your ideas and proposals by March 1st ( via email here)

Workshops

Over the course of six workshops, participants can collaborate on the creations, guided by expert facilitators. The goal is not just to generate ideas, but to actively take part in the project.

Workshop Days:

March 9 & 23: Preparations & carving

April 5 & 19: Carving & painting

May 1 & 8 : Painting

(additional dates available by appointment). Official Opening : May 9th.

Want to help? If you don’t have a specific slogan to contribute, you can still participate by creating a hand-cutout from a plank using a scroll saw, painting it, and adding your name. These hands—hopefully hundreds of them—will be attached to the totem pole, symbolizing community involvement. You can create your hand at home or during any of the workshops at the Lincoln Park neighborhood garden. It’s sure to be a fun and meaningful activity!

The Goal

Together with the residents of Lincoln Park and other surrounding neighborhoods, create a communal garden with value for people and nature. We do this by facilitating and organizing:

Practical ‘hands-on’ working days
Educational programs
Workshops and events

On March 1, 2023 we started transforming this old field into an ecological paradise; more green, color and biodiversity. Since then, volunteers have been working in the garden several days a week. In the spring of 2024 we opened our doors, the first events were organized and we started selling fresh harvest.

The Lincoln park community garden is brimming with potential, and we have exciting plans for its future. Moreover, its development will involve a collaborative effort between the municipality and local residents, ensuring it becomes a treasured asset for the entire community.

Discover the journey of its growth.

Since March 1, 2023, we have made significant progress in our mission at Stichting MEERGroen, constructing a windbreak with a variety of native trees, establishing an orchard filled with fruit trees and shrubs, and building a spacious greenhouse for cultivation and social gatherings. We have also created a clay pizza oven, planted the first seeds in our vegetable garden, and set up a space and container for meetings and storage. Starting in the summer of 2024, we begam selling fresh, local, and healthy produce from our harvest. We are excited to host a range of enjoyable and educational events as we continue to develop this space together.
